Ahoy there fellow sailors and welcome to the Captain’s Desk once again.
Well what a busy month it has been.
Firstly our very own Neil Rowsthorn WON the Para- Sailor of the Year while sweet Naomi was Runner Up in the 2025 Queensland Sailing Awards. A huge well done to you both as we know there was some pretty strong competition.
We also hosted the 2025 Queensland Sailability State Conference at the Southport Sharks where members from some 14 clubs around Qld attended then came to Hollywell on the Friday to check us out. Thanks to all those that attended and madeSailability GC shine.
Then we had our Annual Fashion Parade which was held at the CSI Club in Southport, CSI donating the room for the night. A full house of 100 were there to enjoy some fun, fashions and embibe in the odd beverage while some 50 odd raffles were drawn and given out on the night. Thanks to all that donated and assisted on the night. We believe a good time was had by all.
The sailing has been excellent with days of good winds and pleasant sunshine which
has added to the smiles we put on our clients faces.
Training is going along nicely with many new people now being accredited to fully participate in many roles which is a real credit to all involved.
We have been getting great support from The Meat Locker in Molendinar who are supporting us with sausages and burgers for our weekly bbq. All reports coming back are that the snags and burgers are great, so a big thanks to the Meat Locker. While on the subject a big shout out to the BBQ team. Neville, Peter, Mark head up the team of sizzling chefs each week, cooking, cleaning and even cutting the onions. Thanks guys it is appreciated.
Another quality that makes a great volunteer is being a Team Player, which inevitably means being able to work with others, whether other volunteers or clients. Being approachable, friendly and co-operative are vital skills required to be a good team player.
Well, that’s a rap for this month. See you on the water soon.
Robin Hay
President.
