From the Captain’s Desk: March 2025
Ahoy there sailors.
Well the year started off for us being very busy. As well as our normal activities entertaining some 264 clients on the water during February, we conducted a special day for The Aphasia Society. This is a society formed to assist stroke victims with the inability to comprehend and formulate language. They were having a State Conference on the Gold Coast and wanted to introduce some of their members to sailing. We attended to 40 members and their Carers and then joined them all for lunch and a chat. It was a great success and many of them had been sailors in the past but due to their conditions had not been out on the water, with many of them declaring they would be back.
March has not been so kind to us with poor weather prohibiting many days of safe sailing for our clients. However we made the most of it and were able to allow Southport Yacht Club to extend and improve our dock facilities which is greatly appreciated.
Additionally, we were able to have our two larger yachts, Spirit and Hope serviced with all new rigging also being installed. Flipper is undergoing the same works, so now our boats are all in tip top condition.
Also this month, some of our members attended The Hansa Class World Championships at the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club on The Pittwater in Sydney and we are proud to say have acquitted themselves very well in the winning circle. Well done guys.
Sailability Gold Coast is an organisation run entirely by volunteers and functions from the generosity of your donations. If you would like to become involved with us feel free to contact us at any time, we would love to hear from you.
That’s it for our first edition of “From The Captain’s Desk” and I look forward to catching up with you all soon.
In the meantime enjoy safe and happy sailing.
